About Us

Brothers Ben and John "Jay" McNitt operate Wood Works in Tucson, Arizona.

Ben is the designer and builder. Jay runs marketing.

We offer two styles, Traditional based on early American and Shaker designs, and Southwestern featuring

our own designs influenced by Mexican, Anglo and Native American cultures.

          In building our Traditional pieces

custom designed to our client’s unique

needs and vision, we specialize in wide

board Pennsylvania cherry, hand selected

at the sawmill, shipped to our shop in

Tucson, assembled with precision cut

joints and finished by hand.

          Wide board designs – including

consecutively cut “matched boards” like

those illustrated here – produce richly

distinctive dining table and desk tops

highlighting the wood grain and its famed

cherry patina that deepens over time.

Ben launched Wood Works in 2002 in Washington, DC, and later joined up in Tucson with Jay, former vice

president of Western American Furniture.

Whether you are interested in one of our Southwestern pieces, a modest project to meet a special need, or

a more ambitious venture, Wood Works welcomes the opportunity to work with you.
