The Rain Bird design is one of the most distinctive features of Pueblo Indian pottery bating back at least to the 1200s at Mesa Verde and continuing to contemporary work among the Zuni, Hopi and Rio Grande Pueblo peoples. Its forms range from clearly representational to imaginatively nuanced. This table is one of a series in which I’ve adapted Rain Bird designs cut into thin sheets of cherry laminated against a birdseye maple background to highlight the contrasting shades of wood.
