Raised Panel Chests

Reminiscent of Old West stage coach chests, Wood Works makes chests in mesquite, cherry and mahogany with raised panels on the lid and all four chest sides.

These chests are perfect for storing memorabilia, camera gear, craft materials and any number of other items.

The hardware on this mahogany chest is blackened iron. We have several hardware options available, including brass.

The mesquite chest, above, has a knot and resin-filled core swirl resembling a galaxy core in outer space. Each chest has a chain stop to hold the birch-wood lined lid open and a 2-inch deep poplar tray.  

These chests are 12 by 12 by 20 inches and finished with six coats of tung oil. Wood Works can scale this concept up to Hope Chest/Blanket Chest size to suit client needs.

Computer Desk

This desk was commissioned by a client in New York City who wanted to match traditional style with a modern design suited to his computer needs. The left pedestal roll out tray holds two computers. The right pedestal trays hold a printer and router. The center drawer front folds down and the drawer rolls out to hold a keypad. Connecting wires between the pedestals are nested out of sight inside the desk top. Rear and inside pedestal panel areas are left open for air flow at the customer’s request, although the desk includes insertable rear and side panels. Cherry construction with poplar trays and tung oil finish. Dimensions: 6 feet by 28 inches; 30 inches high.

Shaker Sofa Table

The top of this sofa table was hand planed from a cherry board 15 by 46 inches. The  drawers have hand cut half-blind dovetails.  Solid cherry construction with poplar drawer interiors. Thirty-one inches high. Linseed oil finish.

Shaker Side Table

We build this Shaker side table with accent strips of bloodwood around the drawer front and at the bottom of the four sides. The drawer has hand cut half-blind dovetails. This piece was finished with a moderate lye wash to age and darken the wood followed by three coats of linseed oil. Dimensions: 15.75 by 14.25 inches; 25.75 inches high.

Bench

This bench is made from a plank of 1 inch thick cherry, 34 inches long. The 15 inch legs are bloodwood. Constructed with a “floating” table top to allow for wood expansion. Polyurethane finish.

Shaker Bench

The top of this traditional Shaker bench is made from a plank of 16.25 by 26 inche curly cherry. Height 16 inches. Polyurethane finish.

Shaker Hutch

The sides and interior shelves of this Shaker hutch are made from 5/8th by 16 inch wide planks of cherry. The top is curly cherry. Height 44 inches. The piece was first finished with yellow and red cherry water based stains, followed by a gel stain, shellac and polyurethane.

Liquor Cabinet

This Shaker inspired liquor cabinet is made from 16 inch wide planks of cherry and stands 45 inches high.  The drawer has a sliding 6 inch wide marble cutting board. The piece is finished with antique cherry water stain, gel stain, shellac and polyurethane.

Inlayed Cherry Chest

This chest was designed as a wedding gift for a Scottsdale couple. Cherry construction with raised panels on five sides, bird's eye maple veneer, marquetry and banding inlay. Interior tray. Brass hardware. Lined in Spanish cedar. Twelve coat, hand rubbed shellac finish. Dimensions: 20 by 12 by 12 inches.

This chest was built as a prototype for Item 704b above. Pine construction with raised panels on five sides, English hickory veneer, marquetry and banding inlay. Interior tray. Brass hardware. Twelve coat, hand rubbed shellac finish. Dimensions 20 by 12 by 12 inches.

This chest has a raised panel top and two interior trays. The sides are made from 15 inch wide planks of dovetailed cherry.  Polyurethane finish. Dimensions: 14 by 28 inches; 16.5 inches high.

Inlayed Reading Case

Inspired by the Jefferson writing desk, this briefcase sized piece has a brass locked cherry top with bird’s eye maple veneer, marquetry and banding inlay. The interior is velvet lined. The sides are made from bird’s eye maple.
